Course Description

Music is a fundamental form of expression, both personal and cultural. Areas that are covered include Music history, composition, technology and performance.  You will learn to prepare and participate in solo and group performances; identify and compare musical styles and genres; relate music to social and historical contexts; create compositions/songs and improvisation; identify musical elements through listening; read, write and interpret printed music; make progress in personal performance; foster personal identity and positive relationships with others through group participation in music; recognise the importance and significance of music in society; develop skills to communicate original musical ideas; listen with discernment; recognise melodic and rhythmic patterns aurally

Students also need to have instrumental or voice lessons at school or with a private teacher outside of school.

ALL Year 10 to Year 13 Music students are required to be taking instrumental and/or voice lessons either at school or with a private teacher outside of school.

Recommended Prior Learning

It is desirable that the student is able to play an instrument. Voice is counted as an instrument.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

  • Some classes may be combined by Year level (e.g. Year 11 and 12 in one class) if numbers do not make separate classes viable
