Course Description

Level 1 Health Education provides students with the opportunity to: Explore the concept of Hauora (wellbeing) and other holistic models. Students will participate in a range of activities that will allow them to demonstrate their understanding of the application of the Hauora model. Students will be provided with opportunities to investigate a variety of health promotion actions that are needed to address health issues that impact wellbeing at personal, interpersonal and societal level. They will also recommend strategies to address the issues and enhance wellbeing. Students will develop tools to improve and enhance their interpersonal skills and different relationships; be resilient – learn to identify and minimise risks, develop strategies for coping with adversity, and access and use support for themselves and others; develop an understanding of the attitudes and values that impact on wellbeing – such as respect, care, concern for others and social justice. Contexts taught within the Health Education programme include - food and nutrition, relationships and sexuality, wellbeing and mental health.

Students will be given the opportunity to sit literacy/numeracy co-requisites from Year 10.
NCEA Level 1 - following the completion of the first year of implementation of the reduced and revised standards, we will evaluate assessments for 2025.
