Course Outline
Advance your historical understanding and analytical skills with NCEA Level 3 History at Carmel College. Building on the foundations of Level 1 and Level 2 History, this course examines significant global events and their lasting impacts.
In Term One, explore the era of Patriotism to Protest in the USA during the 1950s and 1960s, examing the profoiund social changes and their international repercussions.
Term Two focuses on contested historical events, such as the Russian Revolution and the Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima. Students will critically analyse these events, considering diverse perspectives and interpretations.
For the remainder of the year, the course extends into the broader study of the 20th century. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of key events that have shaped the modern world, including major conflicts, power dynamics and ideologies.
This course not only deepens historical knowledge but also hones research, analysis and critical thinking skills. These skills are invaluable for future pathways in higher education and careers in law, journalism, public policy, international relations and more. Only students engaged in learning and achievement derived from Te Marautanga o Aotearoa are eligible to be awarded these subjects as part of the requirement for 14 credits in each of three subjects.
