Course Outline

Dive into the compelling stories of change and resilience with NCEA Level 1 History at Carmel College.  Explore the daring actions of militant suffragettes who fought for women's rights, understand the moral convictions of conscientious objectors during World War 1 and trace the powerful strides of the Black Civil Rights Movement.  Through these topics, students will develop critical thinking and research skills, while engaging with diverse perspectives and historical contexts.

Studying history opens up a variety of future pathways.  Students can pursue careers in teaching, research or become professional historians.  History provides a strong foundation for roles in law, journalism, public policy and international relations.  The analytical and communication skills gained are highly valued in business, management and the public sector.  Additionally, history fosters a deep understading of societal changes and cultural contexts, preparing students for roles in community advocacy, museum and heritage management and social justice work.  Join us to gain a deeper understanding of how these pivotal movements have shaped out world and to prepare for a wide range of future pathways.

FOR YEAR 11 (LEVEL 1) STUDENTS - 2025:

Students will be given the opportunity to sit literacy/numeracy co-requisites from Year 10.

NCEA Level 1 - following the completion of the first year of implementation of the reduced and revised standards, we will evaluate assessments for 2025.
