Course Outline
Expand your hisotrical knowledge and critical thinking with NCEA Level 2 History at Carmel College. While building on the skills learned in Level 1 History is beneficial, it is not a prerequisite for this course. Students will engage in a research project focused on the theme of New Zealand in Conflict, allowing them to deeply explore a topic of personal interest. A highlight of the course is the Year 12 camp in Term One, featuring an enriching visit to the National Army Museum. Here, students will have exclusive access to a premier library and rare books, complemented by a guided tour with expert insights.
In Term Two, delve into the dramatic events of the Rise of the Third Reich and the collapse of democracy in Germany, gaining a nuanced understanding of these pivotal moments in history. Term Three shifts focus to the complex and ongoing Palestine-Israel conflict, providing students with a thorough exploration of its historical and contemporary dimensions.
This course not only deepens historical understanding but also equips students with research, analysis and critical thinking skills applicable across numerous future pathways, including higher education and careers in law, journalism, public policy and more.
